It was just a couple weeks ago, hours deep into my research on American socialites for a collection I’m working on that led me to the it-girl of the 1960’s, Edie Sedgwick. Although the outfit in these photos was planned weeks before this discovery, a few modifications took it from 2018 feminine street style to my attempt at blending 2018 with a little be of 1960’s it-girl, like Ms. Sedgwick herself. For anyone unfamiliar with Edie, she was known for being one of Andy Warhol’s muses, and for her style, primarily mini dresses paired with tights.
TOP TO BOTTOM:
Earrings
Everyone knows that if there’s one type of jewelry I love, it’s a good statement earring. Lisi Lerch was kind enough to send me these tiered hoop earrings covered in pearls and to say I’m obsessed is an understatement. I’m fairly certain I’ve worn them at least three days each week since receiving them because they go with absolutely everything.
Turtleneck
I’m surprised that my mother didn’t call me up giving me a hard time for wearing an actual turtleneck, not just a mock turtleneck, when a photo of this outfit went up on my Instagram! Turtlenecks were all the rage in the 60’s and honestly, I’ve really just been feeling the layered jumper look. This exact turtleneck sweater can’t be linked, however this one comes close {and is under $15}!
Dress
Someone please give me allll the ruffles! I’m typically not one for yellow {I think this is actually one of two yellow items I own. The other can be seen here}, but I had to have this little number! The dress linked is similar as I can’t find this one on a website in English.
Belt
I needed something to tie in and balance all the black on my lower half, so I went for this thin 1″ belt around my waist! I know that wide belts and even bigger buckles seem to be all the rage right now, but I’m always going to be an advocate for the skinny belt.
Tights
I used to have a whole collection of fun tights when I was younger, and now I want to bring it back! I’m starting with these adorable heart tights. Subtle in black, but the hearts make them feminine and give a little interest. They’re under $10 and you can shop them here.
Boots
I’ve been wearing these Stuart Weitzman boots so much that at this point it’s becoming a problem. At least, I’d say it was a problem if they didn’t match absolutely everything in my closet! Despite the tall heel, they do come in a lower heel and a flat version as well. Believe it or not, even with the tall heel they are SO comfortable.
xx,
E
