Organize Yo’ Self 2017: How to Keep Your Purse Clutter-Free

January 16, 2017

Begrudgingly, I’ll admit that at one point, a long time ago, I was guilty of my purse being a complete mess, with me throwing everything and everything in there and always forgetting to clean it out or take out the things I no longer needed. I mean, it may have been July and 80 degrees, but what if I happened to find myself at an indoor skating rink and needed the winter gloves?

What can I say?  It was a dark time.

Now I can never even imagine my purse being that cluttered again, and here’s why:

The trick to having a purse that is always clean is to be constantly changing it.

So often I find with myself and the people around me that we tend to fall back to our one favorite bag and it’s usually all we want to carry allll the time. It matches every single outfit, it’s perfect in every season, it never leaves our side. It’s way too easy to fall back into this rhythm, but carrying around a heavy, cluttered, bag is just going to make life that much more difficult.

Like almost any necessary evil, I’ve got a few life hacks for decluttering and organizing your purse.

Now there’s two different ways to do this:

1. Change the actual bag
“Okay Eva, we get it, this is obvious when you said change the bag.” Yeah , I agree, but think about it: By constantly carrying something different, of different shape and size, you’re forced to take everything out of your original bag and put only what you need back into the new bag. Plus, by switching from crossbody to satchel to tote or any combination of shape and size and back again, you have to only carry as much as the smallest bag you ever carry can handle. This way, that Louis Vuitton Neverfull actually feels as if it’s never full.

2. Change the purpose of your favorite bag
We all have a favorite bag. I completely understand not wanting to be changing it so constantly! By constantly changing the purpose of your favorite bag instead of the actual bag, you’ll also be able to keep your bag clutter-free!  As an example: I have absolutely no idea how I ever functioned without my Kate Spade 2 Park Avenue Beau Bag {for those of you who follow this blog or my Instagram, you know this}. I love my Beau, but I love it even more that I can switch it out so frequently for different purposes. In one week, it switches several times from purse to dance bag, with the occasional school bag or carry on being thrown into the mix. All four of these uses require very different items, which makes me have to take everything out every single time.  HAVING A LOT OF STUFF IN MY BAG DOES NOT MAKE THIS A LOT OF FUN. It is way way easier and quicker to change out my stuff if I only have my absolute essentials.
