Wearing my Spring Wardrobe in the Cold + My Favorite Spring Wardrobe Hacks!

Living in one of the coldest of the 50 states in the United States of America, when spring comes around, my wardrobe reaches a state of clothing purgatory.  The thick scarves and warm chunky sweaters? Yeah, those are a little too frigid for the warming weather and spring feeling. The chiffon tops and lace miniskirts? A little too cold for the weather still {although let’s be real: I wear mini skirts in the winter and just choose to ignore the cold complain about how cold I am}.

Yes, the first months of spring become quite confusing. Too cold for a spring wardrobe and too warm for a winter. So instead, I choose to combine them.

There’s a simple key to transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring: smart layering. Not the layering that keeps you evenly heated no matter the weather, but the type of layering that allows you to wear your favorite white sleeveless Lilly Pulitzer peplum top when it’s 40 degrees out.

Cardigans: Buy full-length or three-quarter length cardigans in lighter colors. Navy is, of course the only acceptable dark color for spring. Otherwise, stay away from black, brown, and burgundy, in favor of camel, mint, and coral. Also select a thin even knit, instead of the chunkier knits of winter.

Knits: Thin, uniform knits or light cable knits are ideal for the transition months. They’re enough to keep you warm, but not so heavy that you’ll be sweating or looking like you just came from the tundra.

Jeans: Of course, some days it’s just too cold to even try wearing a skirt. If you’re looking for something a little more spring than a dark jean, try a cream denim instead. The cream is a perfect alternative to a skirt or a white or dark jean in the transition months as your legs will stay warmer, but the color isn’t as deep as a dark rinse or as bright as a true white.

My absolute favorite, must have, tried and true spring transition essentials are linked below, and none of them are over $40 {my favorite jeans are on sale for 60% off}!
