Three Red Lipsticks Your Makeup Bag Needs Right Now

February 8, 2018

If there’s one thing Valentine’s Day, or rather, Galentine’s Day, is a good excuse for, it’s the perfect shade of red lipstick. Whether you’re posing for the perfect Instagram selfie with your girls, or puckering up for your SO, red is the name of the game come February 14th. I didn’t intend for it to happen, but somehow red has become my signature shade. Oh yes, my lipstick addiction has led me to try to red lipsticks of all price points and quality, and now I’m here to share my lipstick wisdom with you.

The Indie Brand: Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Heartbreaker

You just know that this is the perfect shade of red from the name. You just know. Huda even describes this color as “a man-eating pinkish red.” As far as red lipstick go, this one is a fairly true shade of red. It’s bright, and it’s bold, but it’s not trashy or too “in your face.” This is a really classic shade, and what’s even better is the staying power. Huda Beauty’s liquid lipsticks are among the best I’ve ever tried. They don’t dry or crack, it’s easy to get clean, crisp lines from them, and they last all day with little need for touch ups.

Ooh look I’m matching my lipstick to my sweater! You can get the lipstick here, and the sweater here

The Classic High-End Brand: Mac Viva Glam Lipstick in Viva Glam I

This is my go-to red lipstick. If I ever am at a loss for what lipstick I’m wearing with a given outfit, there’s a good chance I’m turning to this one. In the world of red lipsticks, this is the perfect slightly deeper red. It’s a little to the vampier side, but nothing too crazy. This is a traditional lipstick, unlike the Huda Beauty color, so using a lip liner isn’t a bad idea. Instead of trying to find a lip liner that matches it, I use a small lip brush to line my lips in the lipstick itself before applying it, and it works perfectly!

The Drugstore Brand: NYX Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red

To be completely honest, I don’t buy drugstore lipsticks all too often, but when I do, I usually buy NYX {I cannot live without this NYX lipstick in Exotic. It’s a wonderful neutral color}. NYX’s Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red is a true red. It’s almost like a toned down version of Huda Beauty’s Heartbreaker. This shade of red lipstick isn’t as pigmented as the Huda shade, making it the ideal option if you’re a lover of red but not all that comfortable with wearing a color so bright and bold. At just $6, the price of this pretty shade of red just can’t be beat.

Of all these lipsticks, Huda is my pick for Valentine’s Day. The bright, pigmented color looks good with any shade of red you could possibly be wearing, plus the fact that it stays put without drying out is a major plus!

Below I’ve linked all three of these lipsticks, plus a few pinks and plums I love that weren’t included in this list. Happy Galentine’s Day, loves!
