Let me tell you, the beginning of April is a state of bland purgatory for Central Park. Not some frozen winter wonderland, not a long stretch of gorgeous greenery in the heart of Manhattan, just a brown piece of land. Regardless, I dragged my Lilly Pulitzer-wearing self in there to brighten the place up a little.
See? Just look at all of that dead grass.
I’ve seen a lot of Lilly Pulitzer dresses, but this one is practically screaming to be on Palm Beach. From the palm leaf print to the heavy lace, the whole dress gives off this modern vintage kind of vibe when it’s worn. I really feel like I should be hosting a party in a Palm Beach beach house or something in this! The dress comes in {this} print as well, which I also like, but there’s something truly Lilly about the Local Flavor palm print.
Did I get some strange looks from New Yorkers for being a dress in A. a color other than black and B. 40 degree weather? Obviously. They’re going to have to get used to it — I’ve got a whole closet full of floral prints, seersucker, and pastels that will be worn this spring. I think if there’s anything this winter has proved, it’s that my wardrobe knows no weather. See Example A here, Example B here, and Example C here. One of these days I’ll learn the importance of dressing for the weather, but clearly today is not that day.
Fun fact: All of these photos were taken by Will Ortiz, who I actually met at Apple SoHo! During fashion week, my computer fell sideways while plugged in, and my MacBook charger bent at a 90 degree angle. It wouldn’t charge my computer, and I was freaking out! I skipped the presentation I was supposed to go to, and ran to Apple SoHo to buy a new charger, where Will was working. When I mentioned I needed to charge my computer to finish my post, Will mentioned that he just so happened to be a photographer who just shot for a blogger, and the rest is history! Just under two months later, Will ended up shooting these.
