How to Wear Plaid on Plaid this Holiday Season

I LOVE a Christmas plaid. Come December 1st, I pull out the red plaid, the black watch, the tartan, ALL OF IT. While I’m typically against plaid on plaid or *shudder* plaid on stripes, I couldn’t resist pairing two of my favorite plaid pieces together this holiday season.

Both of my cape and top are not only fun and festive, but are also extremely affordable! The cape is actually a wool blend and currently on sale for under $30 {click here to shop}. Truthfully, it might be one of my favorite shopping steals of the whole season. The website I bought it off of has several more holiday-appropriate capes all within $20-30. I’ll link several of those options at the end of this post for you to shop.

My top is so crazy popular that it actually sold out yesterday, however this top happens to be the exact same plaid and a very similar style! If you prefer something with sleeves, I recommend checking out this style, which is also the same print. Both options are currently 40% off with the code “MOREISMORE.” If you’re looking for my exact top, I recommend trying to stop by your nearest J.Crew Factory store as they may have a few left! Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled to this link in case of a restock.

The best tip I can give you when styling plaid on plaid is to choose two plaids that are essentially the inverse of each other. Both my top and my cape have the same colors in both of them and are relatively the same scale of print, making them appear more complimentary than contradictory. Use plaids that are all neutrals, or one that’s a statement color, like my red cape, and a complimentary plaid that’s more of a neutral like my navy top. Make sure to pick your battles. Going for a head to toe plaid look can be overwhelming, which is why I opted to break up the print with my solid jeans and shoes.
