If you’re searching for Saks wedding guest dresses, I’m guessing that you’re right in the trenches of wedding season with me, trying to find the perfect look to satisfy whatever dress code was thrown your way.

You’ve chosen well—Saks Fifth Avenue stocks all kinds of wedding guest attire, frequently bringing in new arrivals to discover and even offering some amazing deals on designer wedding guest dresses for women. Besides that, I just kind of love Saks. My mother used to take me to Saks Off Fifth in Minneapolis to shop their designer sale when I was still single-digits—those candy store-esque trips really helped cement my early love for fashion.

Black-Tie Saks Wedding Guest Dresses

Saks Fifth Avenue is a go-to stop for black-tie wedding guest gowns. Stocking luxury labels like Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Danielle Frankel, there’s absolutely no shortage of stunning formal gowns perfect for a black-tie wedding dress code.

1. Theia Teresa Draped Tulle Gown

I couldn’t help but fall in love with the Theia Teresa Draped Tulle Gown. The breathtaking gown’s silhouette feels soft and romantic while bringing the drama in a rich sangria color. To enhance the drama of it all, a beautiful statement necklace or chandelier earrings would be perfect with the strapless gown.

If the fuschia tone isn’t for you, try it in one of the other tones it’s offered in, like navy or coral.

2. Sachin & Babi Bonnie Bow One-Shoulder Gown

This chic number’s structured silhouette and feminine bow shoulder detail make it perfect for a formal wedding—elegant, without being too ostentatious.

3. Rene Ruiz Collection Strapless Draped Jacquard Gown

Dressing for a fall or winter wedding can feel like a challenge compared to a spring or summer affair. That’s why I love that the Rene Ruise Strapless Draped Jacquard Gown is made in a deep teal shade with gold accents.

The teal is perfectly appropriate for colder months, while the metallic gold detail brightens it up and provides solid contrast to the rich hue.

4. ML Monique Lhuillier Strapless Jacquard Gown

Heavy beading and embroidery can sometimes look gaudy or distract from the wearer. The ML Monique Lhuillier Strapless Jacquard Gown leverages tone-on-tone beading over large floral motifs which provides just the right amount of sparkle without taking away from the beauty of the dress.

Made in a beautiful shade of navy, the gown is a great investment if you’re looking for Saks wedding guest dresses that can be worn year-round—navy will never go out of style.

5. Danielle Frankel Sasha Satin Button-Detail Gown

Danielle Frankel is currently one of the fastest-rising bridal designers in the market for her effortlessly sexy, minimalist silhouettes that play off the elegance of the wearer rather than trying to overpower her.

With that in mind, it makes perfect sense that Frankel would be able to design a slinky black-tie wedding guest gown that fits into any formal ceremony. The Sasha Satin Button-Detail Gown follows all the traditional wedding guest dress rules in a fresh and modern way—modest in the front, with a low-cut crossover back, and button detail for extra interest.

6. Theia Ambrose Floral Jacquard Strapless Gown

Another showstopping Theia number, the Ambrose Floral Jacquard Strapless Gown is a mermaid silhouette crafted from a luxurious pink and gold foil brocade.

This floor-length, sculptural gown would be perfect for a spring wedding thanks to its classically floral weave.

7. Mac Duggal Ieena Ruffle Tiered Cut-Out Chiffon Gown

Made in a deep burgundy shade, the Mac Duggal Ieena Ruffle Tiered Cut-Out Chiffon Gown feels like something out of a romantic escape. The tiered gown features bust pleating, large statement shoulder ruffle detail, and a small cascading train that perfectly compliments the airy chiffon the gown is made out of.

I have this gown in a delicate yellow floral print, and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. The lace-up back makes it easy to get a perfect fit, and the bodice’s almost-empire, above the waist cut makes it ultra-flattering.

See this gown on my in my guide to Neuschwanstein Castle.

Black-Tie Optional Wedding Guest Dresses at Saks

Black-tie optional can be a confusing wedding guest dress code, but, once you realize that this dress code is more about what tux-wearers are wearing than it is gown-donners, it becomes much easier to figure out.

Think of black-tie optional as being a bolder, slightly more casual dress code to black tie. Your floor-length gown might be a brighter color or a bold print, but you could also get away with wearing a midi dress in a formal textile, or even a dressed-up cocktail dress made more formal with embellishment.

8. Sachin & Babi Aubrey One-Shoulder Bow Gown

Deep green is a universally flattering shade that is easy to wear to a wedding at nearly any time of the year. It’s more interesting than your basic navy frock, but not quite as bold as wearing Barbie pink.

This minimalist, just-above-the-toe gown’s lowkey silhouette but unapologetically large shoulder bow detail makes it a top black-tie optional gown option.

9. Theia Anastasia Embellished Strapless Gown

Rhinestones and sequins tend to be more appropriate for a black-tie affair rather than its slightly more casual sister, but the tasteful pop of embellishment on this coral Theia Anastasia Embellished Strapless Gown has me thinking otherwise.

The gown features just the right amount of drape across the bodice and skirt to give the effect of movement without adding bulk to the sleek style.

10. Oscar de la Renta Strapless Geranium-Print Column Gown

Take advantage of black-tie optional’s laidback gown standards with a vibrant floral print perfectly suited for a spring garden wedding.

Oscar de la Renta is a master of color and fit, unsurprisingly nailing both in this simply sophisticated number.

11. Alexia María Margaret Bow Silk Dress

I typically wouldn’t recommend an attention-stealing, oversized bow for a cocktail dress code, which is why the Alexia María Margaret Bow Silk Dress slips right into a black-tie optional dress code with ease.

A midi dress, the classy number channels major 50s starlet energy with a classic silhouette and Monroe-worthy bow.

Of course, if pink isn’t for you, you’ll be thrilled to know that the dress is available in six different colors, including white (snag for a bridal shower or rehearsal dress).

12. Badgley Mischka Botanical Leaf One-Shoulder Dress

This pea-green gown feels like a breath of fresh air thanks to its showstopping, leaf-like draped sleeve. The radial ruching flatters the body with a waist-snatching effect.

While it’s on the formal end of black-tie optional, it would be a stunning pick for a summer wedding outdoors.

13. ML Monique Lhuillier Indigo Satin Pleated Gown

Get lost in the deep blue of this 70s-esque ML Monique Lhuillier gown. The flowy skirt and ruched bodice will have you wanting to wear it again and again—think about how comfortable it’ll be to dance the night away in that skirt.

14. Badgley Mischka Sequin Embellished Cocktail Dress

Though sequins are not appropriate for every wedding, if you’re attending a black-tie optional winter wedding, a few of them, thoughtfully placed may be in order.

The Badgley Mischka Sequin Embellished Cocktail Dress contrasts vibrant floral sequin embroidery with a black background on a midi-column frock that balances formality and fun.

Saks Cocktail Wedding Guest Dresses

Cocktail is one of the most common wedding dress codes by far. It’s easy for a guest to plan precisely the right look as the dress code describes—cocktail dresses.

There are tons of stylish Saks wedding guest dresses for a cocktail dress code but honestly, this dress code is so easy to dress for that there’s probably something hanging in your closet to satisfy this ask.

15. Lavish Alice One-Shoulder Bow Midi-Dress

Tied up with a bow, this dark green cocktail dress keeps things simple and sleek. The deep color is suited for a fall or winter wedding—just think of how gorgeous the color would be for a Christmas wedding.

ELLIATT Cassini Dress in light blue, a satin cocktail Saks wedding guest dress.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

16. Elliatt Cassini Satin One-Shoulder Dress

In my guide to the best REVOLVE wedding guest dresses, I labeled ELLIATT as the wedding guest dress label—I still stand by that. The brand is known for making timeless-but-flattering styles in a rainbow of colors that would fit in at nearly any cocktail or semiformal wedding.

Of those dresses, the Cassini Satin One-Shoulder Dress is a standout favorite. Made of hammered satin, the sweeping one-shoulder look exudes effortless elegance with a relatively attainable price point.

I recently ordered this dress for an upcoming wedding and found that it runs a smidge large, but not enough to go down a full size.

17. ML Monique Lhuillier Kate Jacquard Minidress

Cocktail dresses aren’t just straight and simply column silhouettes! The skirt of this flouncy ML Monique Lhuillier style has full, flirty volume that would be stunning at a spring wedding.

Badgley Mischka light pink bow-front strapless cocktail dress.

18. Badgley Mischka Bow Cocktail Dress

This sculptural cocktail dress organically integrates an oversized bow that provides visual interest and spreads across the body for a flattering look.

The dress also comes in a deep green, or, if you’re a future bride-to-be, white for an engagement party or rehearsal dinner.

If you’re going for the soft pink tone, reaching out to the bride (or a friend) in advance to make sure she isn’t wearing a blush dress may be a worthwhile endeavor.

ALC Delfina Gown, a pleated black Saks wedding guest dress.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

19. A.L.C. Delfina Pleated One-Shoulder Gown

The A.L.C. Delfina Pleated One-Shoulder Gown may be the one dress you need in your closet to fully conquer wedding season.

It’s easy to imagine this universally flattering number for a few different dress codes—it could easily be dressed down to cocktail thanks to the ruched side cutout and asymmetrical hem that doesn’t quite reach the floor, or could be dressed up to black-tie optional with some statement jewelry and an updo.

20. Black Halo Lena Embroidered Sheath Dress

Bright, ditsy florals are tossed across this black sheath dress from Black Halo. The metallic sheen of the floral embroidery and popping contrast make it a top wedding guest dress choice for a summer wedding at night.

Outside of the bright white option, the hues of black, navy, and light blue are evergreen colors that can be worn year after year.

22. Self-Portrait Crystal Bustier Lace Midi Dress

It’s tough not to be head-over-heels for this delicate mint green lace. With an outlined bustier of rhinestones, the demure off-the-shoulder style fits right into a spring wedding.

Rebecca Vallance bridal cocktail dress from Saks.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

23. Rebecca Vallance Bridal Bon Ami Bow Knit Midi Dress

Sitting for hours in an uncomfortable, tight dress isn’t a way to spend any wedding. The Bridal Bon Ami Bow Knit Midi Dress by Rebecca Vallance (one of my favorite designers at the moment) solves that issue, by using a textured knit for the dress’ body rather than a satin or crepe textile without give.

Past that, Rebecca Vallance has become synonymous with feminine, classic pieces that have interest without overpowering the wearer or coming off as too loud—exactly what makes for a fantastic wedding guest dress.

Semi-Formal Saks Wedding Guest Dresses

I have thoughts when it comes to the ambiguous semiformal dress code—most of them, negative.

This vague dress code creates confusion for guests (is it one step below a formal black-tie dress code, or more upscale casual?) that often results in attendees looking like they’re going to different parties.

Semiformal isn’t an invitation for “anything goes,” but a wide variety of dresses probably will for women. Technically, semiformal is just a smidge more casual than cocktail. Like black-tie optional, think of it as a more open, expressive version of its more formal older sister. That satin cocktail dress you’ve been eyeing could be just as appropriate in a bold print or made out of a thick knit instead, but the original version will fly just fine as well.

If you’re hesitant, check with the bride or a bridesmaid.

Norma Kamali Diana Midi Dress in black, a Saks wedding guest dress.

24. Norma Kamali Diana Ruched One-Shoulder Midi Dress

If you’ve attended a wedding with a cocktail or semi-formal dress code recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw the Norma Kamali Diana Ruched One-Shoulder Midi Dress make an appearance.

One of Norma Kamali’s most recognizable styles by far, the Diana Dress is available in mini, midi, and maxi lengths. Dresses are made from a soft, comfortable stretch jersey and secured with a bodysuit underneath to keep the structure and fit of the dress intact.

The dress is available in no shortage of color options—if you’re looking for a comfortable wedding guest dress, you’ll be tempted to buy one for each season.

Katie May Caliente knit cocktail dress, a plunge bodycon dress, in black.

25. Katie May Caliente Body-Con Midi Dress

There is absolutely no reason to invest those hard-earned dollars into a wedding guest dress you’ll barely be able to wear again (if ever). The Katie May Caliente Body-Con Midi Dress isn’t one of those pieces.

You won’t have buyer’s remorse with this one—a well-fit black dress is a staple in any woman’s closet. The undeniably chic, plunge black sheath is incredibly figure-flattering and fits in just as well at a semiformal wedding as it does at date night, a friend’s birthday party, or another elevated affair.

ML Monique Lhuilier blue pleated fit and flare mini dress.

26. ML Monique Lhuillier Tafetta Cape-Sleeve Mini Dress

A semi-formal dress code invites greater opportunity to skip the pencil skirt styles for something a little more laid back.

The allover pleating of this blue mini dress gives it great movement and helps it walk the line between cocktail and upscale casual, which lends nicely to a semi-formal dress code.

ASTR the Label navy and orange floral satin cowl neck dress.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

27. ASTR the Label Gaia Floral Satin Cowlneck Midi-Dress

A cowl neck slip dress is a tale as old as time, but the bright poppy print of this navy midi dress gives the style new life. A simple, familiar style such as this one is a safe bet for a cocktail or semi-formal dress code.

Though this bold print is better suited for a semiformal dress code rather than cocktail, ASTR the Label makes this style in several different colors, prints, and textiles that could work at either.

28. Santorelli Blake Handkerchief-Hem Sleeveless Dress

Playing to the formal end of a semi-formal dress code, the Santorelli Blake Handkerchief-Hem Sleeveless Dress’ drapey design feels contemporary and upscale without being overly fussy or formal.

The vibrant blue tone is well-suited for a summer wedding, but can easily be transitioned into fall as well. Wear this one to a wedding, or just wear it to dinner—you can’t go wrong with either.

Casual Saks Wedding Guest Dresses

Casual weddings don’t mean casual in an everyday context (save the errand outfit for your next grocery run). Instead, they typically refer to upscale casual attire like a sundress or sweater dress. You might already have something hanging in your closet to fit this easy dress code, but if you don’t, below are a few of my favorite Saks wedding guest dresses for a casual dress code:

Mestiza New York midi wedding guest dress from Saks.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

29. Mestiza New York Jody Tie-Strap Midi Dress

This midi frock’s simple construction and bright colors allow it to be dressed up with a good pair of heels and statement earrings for a semi-formal wedding, or dressed down with flat sandals and stud earrings for a more casual dress code.

Then again, the bright yellow and sky blue print might have you wanting to skip the wedding and run away to Italy for a whirl through the Amalfi Coast.

Agua by Agua Bendita floral off the shoulder dress for a casual wedding.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

30. Agua by Agua Bendita Banana Esotérico Floral Off-The-Shoulder Midi-Dress

Another one of my favorite ready-to-wear labels at the moment, I’m nearly convinced that Agua by Agua Bendita’s breathlessly beautiful, Colombian-inspired cotton prints can do no wrong.

Construction on their garments, like the Banana Esotérico Floral Off-The-Shoulder Midi-Dress shown here, is setting the bar, as are their unique prints.

This particular midi dress fits right into a casual wedding when styled with a stylish sandal and accessorized with simple gold jewelry (I’m envisioning it with these earrings). Plus, you’ll love that this modest number can go anywhere from brunch to picnic in the park.

Reformation floral midi dress.
Image: Saks Fifth Avenue

31. Reformation Nadira Floral Tie-Strap Midi Dress

Reformation has become my go-to for simple, comfortable dresses that can take me just about anywhere I need to go, including a casual wedding.

The Nadira Floral Tie-Strap Midi Dress is a fantastic addition to your wedding wardrobe, thanks to its adjustable tie straps, comfortable smocked back, and a-line skirt. Just make sure the bridal party isn’t wearing sage—that color is everywhere this season.

Saks Wedding Guest Dresses: FAQ

What should a wedding guest dress look like?

A wedding guest dress should be elegant, flattering, and classic. You’re free to dress to your personal style, just stay away from white and bright colors, overly revealing styles, and loud clothing that may take attention away from the bride. Remember that depending on how close you are to the bride and groom, this dress may be in photos for years to come!

What do female guests wear to weddings?

Female guests should adhere to the wedding dress code. For formal wedding dress codes, like black-tie or black-tie optional, female guests should wear a floor-length gown. For cocktail and semiformal dress codes, female guests should wear a cocktail dress that is knee-length or midi-length. Female guests can also get away with wearing a tailored jumpsuit, or tailored slacks with a dressy blouse.
