12 Essential St. Louis Park Restaurants for Days You Don’t Want to Cook

Don’t sleep on Saint Louis Park. The once low-key suburb has come up in recent years, attracting recent graduates, young professionals, and families looking to stay close to the city at a reasonable price. The trendy shopping and restaurants in St. Louis Park help sweeten the deal.

St. Louis Park takes a much more casual approach to its dining scene than neighboring Minneapolis. Restaurants tend to be some form of American, whether it be New American, Southern comfort food, bar fare, Midwestern, or Californian, though a few international cuisines, like Indian and Mexican, make appearances also.

Due to St. Louis Park’s small size and freeway borders, some of the best restaurants in St. Louis Park technically sit in nearby Golden Valley or Minnetonka. No restaurant on this list could be more than five miles away from The Shops at West End as a reference point.

1. Good Day Cafe

5410 Wayzata Blvd, Golden Valley, MN 55416

For over ten years, every day when I’d head into Downtown Minneapolis for ballet, I’d pass the charming Good Day Cafe and Bad Day Bar perched over the highway.

Founded by David Potter Web, the man behind beloved chain, the Original Pancake House, the Good Day Cafe is one of those frustrating restaurants that I’ve been dying to visit for years and somehow still haven’t made it to.

The casual hotspot is still family-owned, now run by Web’s sons and their mother. Though the Good Day Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it’s breakfast that steals the show for locals.

On the menu across all meals are American favorites, along with a few signature entrées like the Apple Soufflé Pancake, lathered in a cinnamon glaze and topped with Granny Smith apples.

Good Day Cafe reservations can be made via OpenTable.

2. Mill Valley Kitchen

3906 Excelsior Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55416

This chic California-inspired eatery places emphasis on sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients for plates that are both nourishing and delicious.

The restaurant in St. Louis Park’s name pays homage to the Mill Valley Region of Northern California, a pioneer of the Slow Food movement in the United States.

With similar intention, Mill Valley Kitchen serves New American plates that can easily accommodate common dietary restrictions like vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free. The health-conscious will be pleased to know that nutrition information is displayed directly on the menu for full transparency.

The restaurant’s happy hour is popular with nearby residents, offered from 3 pm to 6 pm and 8 pm to close, daily. During happy hour, guests can find flatbreads like the roasted peach, ricotta, goat cheese, and prosciutto combination, and appetizers like the Korean dry rub grilled chicken wings, for just $8 to $10.

Mill Valley Kitchen reservations can be made via OpenTable.

3. Hope Breakfast Bar

5377 W 16th St, St Louis Park, MN 55416

When The Shops at West End first opened, the outdoor mall stayed relatively bare for a few years. Fast forward over a decade later, and the shopping, dining, and entertainment hub has become a trendy place to live and hang out for the fresh-out-of-college crowd.

It makes perfect sense that buzzy Hope Breakfast Bar would open its second location at the shopping complex. Hope Breakfast Bar has quickly become one of the most talked about breakfast restaurants in the Twin Cities, serving unique plays off American breakfast classics.

The Pimento Cheese Scramble is a personal favorite of mine. That said, there are so many delicious-sounding options that it feels unfair to pick a favorite before trying them all.

4. La Bodega Taco Bar

8005 Minnetonka Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55426

Locals rave about this colorful taqueria in St. Louis Park. La Bodega Taco Bar’s second location in the Twin Cities is making a name for itself by serving some of the best Mexican food in the West Metro.

The birria options are the main attraction here. The Quesabirria Tacos, Birria Tacos, and Birria Ramen receive high marks from reviews who traveled across the Twin Cities in search of the best. Don’t forget a side order of the Esquites (Mexican street corn), another menu favorite.

La Bodega Taco Bar delivers on Doordash, Postmates, and Grubhub.

5. yum! Kitchen and Bakery

4000 Minnetonka Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55416

If there’s anyone in the Twin Cities that doesn’t love yum! Kitchen and Bakery, I’ve yet to meet them.

yum! Kitchen and Bakery is one of the best lunch restaurants in St. Louis Park. This popular local chain of restaurants is part bakery, part cafe, and both are equally worth a try. Both baked goods and menu items are made from scratch, rotating seasonally to leverage the freshest ingredients. My boyfriend’s family has been regular for years, leading the two of us to stop by yum!’s Minnetonka location.

The restaurant’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus feature approachable American dishes. For lunch, expect to find sandwiches, salads, soups, and pizza, amongst others. I opted for the yum! Veggie Sandwich, which arrived at the table loaded with avocado, cucumber, sprouts, tomato, spinach, cheddar, and muenster cheese, finished off with honey mustard on whole grain bread. The sandwich was a great midday pick-me-up and far better than nearby fast food alternatives.

On your way out, grab a slice of yum!’s Patticake, one of the restaurant’s most-loved desserts.

6. BLVD Kitchen & Bar

11544 Wayzata Blvd, Minnetonka, MN 55305

BLVD Kitchen & Bar elevates familiar bar and grill fare. Don’t let the strip mall locale fool you—this is one of the best restaurants near St. Louis Park.

The American restaurant offers a robust menu of appetizers, entrées, flatbreads, burgers, and sandwiches for dinner, in addition to an equally sizable brunch menu composed of indulgent dishes like the French Toast Wagyu Burger and Crab Cake Benedict.

I visited the restaurant for a birthday dinner, and opted for the Mushroom and Arugula Flatbread, topped with layers of button, crimini, oyster, and shiitake mushrooms; provolone cheese, arugula, and rich truffle cream sauce. The large flatbread was able to feed me for two days afterward.

For something lighter, try the restaurant’s seafood options like Tuna Sashimi, Ahi Tuna Crisps, Seafood Paella, or Scallops.

7. Hazelwood Food + Drink

4450 Excelsior Blvd Suite #120, St Louis Park, MN 55416

Hazelwood Food + Drink, a local chain of restaurants serving modern comfort food, is one of the best restaurants in St. Louis Park for dining during later hours.

The expansive restaurant stays open until 11 pm on the weekends, unlike many nearby establishments. On the menu are wood-fired pizzas, filling cuts of steak and seafood, and other contemporary American sandwiches, bowls, salads, and appetizers.

I’ll admit: Hazelwood isn’t my first choice for dining in St. Louis Park. I’ve visited the location in Bloomington and found it passable, but not necessarily outstanding or worthy of going out of the way for a second visit. Instead, Hazelwood is really best fit as a late-night option when other spots are closed, or for groups due to their large dining room.

Then again, maybe my mistake was visiting with the post-dinner crowd—reviews rave about Hazelwood’s delectable brunch.

Hazelwood Food + Drink reservations can be made on OpenTable.

8. Wok in the Park

3005 Utah Ave S, St Louis Park, MN 55426

This ultra-popular Asian fusion restaurant in St. Louis Park is a go-to for local diners looking to get a bite of common American-Chinese dishes like lo mein, crab rangoon, and sweet ‘n’ sour chicken.

Wok in the Park is a family-owned staple in the community, filling the stomachs of thousands of local guests since opening several years ago.

The lowkey eatery has a lengthy menu of plates spanning Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes catering to an American palate.

The fried egg rolls are a particular favorite of patrons, as are the Puffs in the Park. Guests also speak highly of how vegetarian and gluten-free friendly the menu is, also adding that the beer and liquor options are better quality than at other surrounding Asian restaurants.

Wok in the Park is a great pick if you’re looking for some of that guilty-pleasure Americanized Asian cuisine, but, based on the restaurant’s negative reviews, if you’re looking for something more authentic, you’re best heading somewhere else.

10. The Block Food & Drink

7007 Walker St, St Louis Park, MN 55426

My sisters and I came across The Block one night when desperately trying to find a restaurant open late near us. Our go-to for late-night happy hour, Tavern on France, still hadn’t fully recovered its pre-pandemic hours.

The welcoming restaurant is down-to-earth but maintains an air of style, inviting customers to enjoy indoor or outdoor dining on its dog-friendly patio.

Championed on the menu is its broasted chicken plates (which will incur a 25-minute turnaround time that The Block claims is “worth the wait”), along with Midwestern favorites like Wisconsin-sourced cheese curds, generously cut onion rings, and a Nordeast-battered walleye dinner.

Those not looking for heavy bar fare can unclench—The Block also serves health-conscious bowls and salads.

Guests with dietary restrictions aren’t excluded from The Block’s towering sandwiches. The restaurant offers gluten-free bun and bread substitution options, as well as vegan proteins.

The Block reservations can be made on Tock.

The Block is available for food delivery on Uber Eats, Grubhub, Seamless, Doordash, and Postmates—you’ve got options. Take $20 on your first order of $25 or more with Uber Eats promo code eats-evap1241ue.

11. Park Tavern

Louis Park, 3401 Louisiana Ave S, St Louis Park, MN 55426

Maybe in your quest to find the best restaurants in St. Louis Park, you’re looking more for an experience than the city’s top food to entertain your friends. If so, Park Tavern is the one for you.

The family-friendly restaurant is a one-stop entertainment center featuring bowling lanes, arcade games, and billiards in addition to its restaurant and bar. Its lively atmosphere and affordable food and beverage menus have turned the restaurant into a go-to in the city for birthday dinners and corporate events.

Bowling will run you $6 a game, however, Park Tavern offers a special $22 all-you-can-bowl deal on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 pm to 1 am. The deal is only open to the 21-plus crowd—perfect for those looking for things to do at night in St. Louis Park.

12. Taste of India

5617 Wayzata Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55416

Taste of India does exactly as the name describes. In a convenient strip mall space, the Indian restaurant in St. Louis Park serves up standard Indian dishes like all kinds of biryani, masala, curry, and samosas.

Unfortunately due to the events of recent years, the restaurant hasn’t been able to bring back its popular buffet, but it still remains a top spot in the city for its à la carte menu.

Taste of India leans towards North Indian cuisine, earning it extra points with guests. Among the restaurant’s most praised plates are the veggie samosas, garlic naan, and goat entrees.

As an Indian restaurant, there is no shortage of vegetarian options at Taste of India. Vegan options are more limited but also exist on the menu.

Taste of India can be delivered on Grubhub or Doordash.
